Sick days

Sick days make me sick—sugar's high, laziness creeps in, and hydration is nowhere to be found. Worst of all, procrastination starts to hit. On days when you're feeling under the weather, managing your diabetes becomes even more of a challenge. You’ll find yourself constantly checking your blood sugar levels because they tend to rise higher than usual, especially when your body is fighting off illness.

It’s easy to underestimate the effects of high glucose levels, but they’re far from harmless. Dizziness, stress, and overwhelming fatigue are just a few of the symptoms you might experience when your blood sugar isn’t in its normal range. This can make the day feel even more draining, both physically and mentally.

Hydration becomes your best friend. Drinking water not only keeps you refreshed but also helps lower blood sugar levels by flushing excess glucose out of your system. Make it a priority. And while resting is important, don’t underestimate the power of light movement. A 15-minute walk can do wonders—it boosts your energy, clears your mind, and most importantly, helps bring those glucose levels back down. Dress comfortably so that you're neither too hot nor too cold, as temperature regulation can also affect how you feel.

Taking these small, manageable steps can turn around a sick day that feels like a battle against your body. By staying hydrated, active, and comfortable, you’ll not only regain some control but also feel better prepared to face the day head-on.
